What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device through your browser. Similar technologies include your browser’s local storage, pixels and scripts. They let a site remember settings, keep it secure, and let advertising partners show and measure ads.
Cookies And Storage We Use Ourselves
- Display preference (
rayshree-theme, browser local storage) — remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme. Stays until you clear it. - Weather cache (
rayshree_weather, browser local storage) — keeps the header weather reading for 30 minutes so we do not re-request it on every page. Contains only the temperature and a weather code. - Login cookies (
wordpress_*,wordpress_logged_in_*) — set only for our own staff who sign in to publish. Readers never need to sign in.
We do not currently run our own analytics or tracking cookies. If we add an analytics service, we will name it here.
Third-Party Cookies
Google AdSense (advertising). We show ads served by Google. Google and its partners use cookies (for example __gads, __gpi, IDE and similar identifiers) to serve ads, limit how often you see the same ad, detect fraud, and — where you allow it — personalise ads based on your previous visits to this and other websites. YouTube. Our videos are embedded in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not store cookies until you press play. Once you play a video, YouTube (Google) may set cookies under its own policy.
Content delivery. Fonts (Google Fonts), icons and video-player code (unpkg, jsDelivr), video thumbnails (i.ytimg.com) and the weather reading (Open-Meteo) are loaded from third-party servers. These requests share your IP address and browser details with those providers but we do not ask them to set cookies.
Your Choices
- Personalised ads: turn them off at Google’s My Ad Center / Ads Settings, or opt out of many third-party vendors at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.eu.
- Consent (EEA, UK, Switzerland): visitors from these regions are shown a consent message from a Google-certified consent management platform before advertising cookies are used, and can change their choice at any time through that message.
- Browser controls: you can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. The site will still work; ads may become less relevant and your theme choice will be forgotten.
